Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi held talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho in Pyongyang on Wednesday. 

The Rodong Simnum, the official paper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, said on Thursday that Ri and Wang discussed ways to develop friendly and cooperative relations between the two nations following a summit between their leaders in Beijing in late March.

The paper said the two officials also exchanged views on issues of mutual concern including the situation on the Korean Peninsula. 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to the North came as President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held a historic summit last Friday. 

It is the first visit to North Korea by a Chinese foreign minister in eleven years. The top diplomat plans to meet with the North Korean leader on Thursday.
