Moon: Security Condition has Improved to Lead to Inter-Korean Summit

President Moon Jae-in has expressed optimism on the country's security situation, saying that the improved conditions led to the inter-Korean summit last week.

On Thursday, Moon invited the heads of constitutional institutions for a luncheon at the presidential office to explain the outcome of his one-on-one talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Among the attendees were National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun, Constitutional Court President Lee Jin-sung, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and National Election Commission Chairman Kwon Soon-il. Moon said that Supreme Court Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su was absent as he is currently on an overseas business.

The president noted that when he met with the institution chiefs last year in July and October, the state of national security was critically bad but, since then, the situation had improved to the point of holding the inter-Korean talks last Friday.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the Moon-Kim meeting at Panmunjeom had been a historic event that had drawn global attention, and that South Koreans had conveyed their overwhelming support.
