Moon's Top Aide: Breakthrough Possible over N. Korean Issues

President Moon Jae-in's top aide says he's fortunate to be in a position to help the South Korean public feel optimistic that a breakthrough on North Korean issues is possible.
Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok revealed his impressions of last week’s landmark inter-Korean summit on Thursday while presiding over the inaugural meeting of a presidential committee created to oversee the implementation of the Panmunjeom Declaration.
Im said he was relieved the summit went well. In particular, he said the two leaders had successful talks on achieving complete denuclearization and a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, making the summit a good pathfinder for the upcoming U.S.-North Korea summit.
Im also said he appreciated growing public interest and support for the government’s North Korea policies, adding that he's detecting changes in the public's perception of them, including among the older generation.
