White House: N. Korea's Release of Detained Americans Would be Sign of Good Will

Rudy Giuliani, a recent addition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s legal team, said on “Fox and Friends” on Thursday that Pyongyang would be releasing three Americans detained in the North within the day.

When questioned about the comment, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a news briefing Thursday that she can’t confirm the report but added that Washington would see the detainees’ release as “a sign of goodwill” ahead of discussions between President Trump and Kim Jong-un.

The remarks came a day after Trump tweeted that “the past administration has long been asking for three hostages to be released from a North Korean Labor camp, but to no avail,” then adding “stay tuned!”

His tweet suggests that the three Americans could be set free ahead of his summit with Kim Jong-un.
