The presidential office has confirmed that National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong is currently on a U.S. trip. 

An official of the top office told reporters on Friday that Chung secretly visited the U.S. at the U.S. National Security Council’s request to hold discussions on the upcoming Washington-Pyongyang summit. 

The official said the office did not reveal the trip in advance at Washington’s request. 

Chung and his U.S. counterpart John Bolton are likely to focus discussions on the possibility of holding the upcoming summit at the truce village of Panmunjeom. They are also expected to share views on methods for denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula. 

It marks the first time for Chung to travel to the U.S. since last Friday’s inter-Korean summit.
