Top Office: No US Request for Truce Village Arrangement

Officials at Seoul's presidential office says they have not heard anything from the U.S. on the possibility of the Washington-Pyongyang summit taking place at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

Asked if Seoul received any request for the truce village arrangement, a key presidential official on Friday unveiled the current standing on the much-anticipated summit preparations.

The official also said it is unclear whether Washington will announce within this week the date and venue for the summit, asking reporters to direct such questions to the White House.

The official did say that a South Korea-U.S. summit is expected to come before the U.S. holds its summit with North Korea. However, he was quick to add that a potential summit between President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump may not take place depending on the situation.

The official refused to confirm reports that Pyongyang and Washington agreed to complete the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula by the end of 2020 and that the North expressed intent to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to conduct a special inspection of its nuclear facilities.
