The two Koreas are now in sync ― at least in terms of time displayed on the clock.

North Korea pushed its Pyongyang Time half an hour forward Saturday to match Korean Standard Time as recognized by Seoul.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency reports the move is a first step towards reconciliation and unity between the two Koreas following the Panmunjeom summit.

North Korea established its own 30-minutes-earlier time zone in 2015, saying the country did not want to observe a time zone that was set by Japanese occupiers in the early 20th century.

North Korean media report leader Kim Jong-un proposed the change after seeing clocks with two different times for North and South at the Peace House at the truce village of Panmunjeom, the venue of the landmark inter-Korean summit.
