N. Korea Warns of U.S. Continued Sanctions, Pressure

North Korea said on Sunday that the United States is continuing its sanctions and pressure and military threats against North Korea, warning that these acts will not help resolve issues.
A spokesperson of the North Korean Foreign Ministry told the Korean Central News Agency that if the United States misinterprets the North's commitment to peace as weakness and continues to seek pressure and military threats against the regime, it will not help resolve issues.
The spokesperson said that Washington is misleading public opinion that the North's commitment to denuclearization stated in the Panmunjeom Declaration was the results of the U.S. sanctions and pressure.
The spokesperson added that the United States keeps saying that it will not lift sanctions and pressure until the North completely abandons its nuclear weapons, and keeps sending its strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula, raising tensions again in the region.
The strategic assets appear to refer to eight U.S. F-22 Raptor stealth fighters that were mobilized for a recent joint air defense drill with South Korea.
The North then warned that these provocative actions by the United States could cast a cloud over the friendly atmosphere for dialogue created through the inter-Korean summit and the Panmunjeom Declaration.
