Seoul: N. Korea Proposes Creation of Direct Air Route Passing S. Korea

North Korea has been confirmed to be pushing for a new international flight route passing through South Korean airspace.
Seoul’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Noh Kyu-duk said in a regular media briefing on Tuesday that the North has proposed to the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO) to create an air route to a third country that links the flight information regions(FIRs) of Pyongyang and Incheon, home to South Korea's main airport.
The FIR, assigned to ICAO member countries, refers to a region in which basic air traffic services are provided for the safe and efficient passage of flights.
With the request, the North is seen to be preparing for active exchanges with an unidentified third country should international sanctions on the regime be eased following the U.S.-North Korea summit.
