Moon, Abe Agree to Step Up Cooperation for Peace and Denuclearization

The top leaders of South Korea and Japan have pledged to closely cooperate to establish lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieve complete denuclearization.

The South Korean presidential office said President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe came to this agreement in a meeting at the PM's official residence on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the two leaders also agreed to actively work to resume the "shuttle diplomacy" for frequent summits for strategic communication.

President Moon expressed his appreciation for Japan's support for the success of the inter-Korean summit and called for the country’s continued constructive role for the success of the North Korea-U.S. summit and a concrete blueprint for denuclearization.

In response, Abe noted that close communication is taking place between Seoul and Tokyo at this critical juncture and expressed hope that the two countries along with the U.S. will continue their tight cooperation.
