Top Office Welcomes Trump's Plan to Call Kim Jong-un

South Korea's presidential office has noted the significance of U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that he will make a phone call to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday.

In a phone interview with KBS on Saturday, a senior presidential official said it's meaningful that a communication channel has been established between the two leaders.

The official said that even though the two have agreed on North Korea's denuclearization and U.S. security guarantees for the North, much discussion will be required about the details of the process and fact that the pair can discuss pending issues frequently is symbolic of the progress in bilateral relations.

Seoul's presidential office expects that if the two leaders do talk on the phone, they will mainly discuss how to implement the joint statement adopted during their summit in Singapore on Tuesday.
