Gov't to Work Toward Demilitarization of JSA

The committee for the implementation of the April 27th inter-Korean summit declaration has decided to push for demilitarization of the Joint Security Area(JSA) in the truce village of Panmunjeom.
Presidential Spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said in a news briefing on Friday that the plenary meeting of the committee chaired by Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok made the decision earlier in the day.
Kim said North Korea suggested during high-level inter-Korean military talks held on Thursday the idea of demilitarizing the JSA as a pilot project toward establishing peace in the demilitarized zone.
The spokesman added that the government will consult with the United Nations Command, which currently has operational control over the JSA, on specific measures toward the goal.
