Basketball Body Invites N. Korea to Tournament in S. Korea

The two Koreas will hold a basketball match in Pyongyang next month while a North Korean team is likely to participate in a tournament taking place in the South in early August.
During inter-Korean talks on sports exchanges held Monday, the two sides agreed to hold a basketball friendly in the North Korean capital from July third to sixth.
Also, the South's Korea Basketball Association sent an invitation to its North Korean counterpart to participate in the Asia-Pacific University Basketball Challenge scheduled in South Korea in early August.
Founded in 2014, the global competition gathers college teams from countries, including South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the U.S., Canada and Russia.
Korea Basketball Association Vice President Kim Dong-wook said Tuesday that the invitation was delivered to the North through the International Basketball Federation after gaining approval from Seoul's Unification Ministry early this year.
Kim said the North has notified the South that it received the invitation.
As the U.S. typically takes part in the Asia-Pacific University Basketball Challenge, a match between American and North Korean college players could take place if Pyongyang decides to join.
