N. Korean Leader Kim Holds Summit with Xi

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a third summit in Beijing, reaffirming solid relations between the two nations.

According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Kim and Xi held summit talks at the People's Congress on Tuesday to exchange views on the development of North Korea-China relations and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

The two leaders agreed to maintain the development of bilateral relations and to work together to establish peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. They also agreed to actively contribute to maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world.

In the summit, Xi praised Kim for sharing and committing to the goals of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and establishing a permanent peace regime in the region during his Singapore summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Xi added that Kim's latest visit shows North Korea highly values “strategic communication" with China. Xi also vowed to continue to play a constructive role and said China's unwavering stance to boost ties with North Korea will remain unchanged, no matter how international and regional situations change.

Kim expressed his gratitude for China's friendship and support, pledging to further develop ties with North Korea's major ally.

The summit -- their third in three months -- came a week after Kim met with Trump in Singapore and affirmed his commitment to complete denuclearization in return for security guarantees and a new relationship with the U.S.
