Moon Highlights Economic Cooperation with N. Korea, Russia

President Moon Jae-in has highlighted the importance of trilateral economic cooperation between the two Koreas and Russia.

In an interview with Russian media outlets Wednesday on the eve of his state visit to Russia, President Moon said that once a peace regime is established on the Korean Peninsula, the two Koreas will begin economic cooperation in earnest and the inter-Korean economic cooperation should be a three-way cooperation that includes Russia.

Moon also said that Russian President Putin and he share a common goal of realizing complete denuclearization and creating a peace system on the peninsula.

The president said that Putin and he also share the same vision for peace and co-prosperity across Eurasia, adding there are many similarities between his so-called New Northern Policy and Russia's New East Asia Policy.

Moon then expressed hopes to have detailed discussions with the Russian president on ways to increase bilateral cooperation on those policies.

Thanking Putin for his support behind efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, Moon said he will continue to closely work with Russia in the process of securing peace on the peninsula.
