S. Korea Delegation to Visit N. Korea for Red Cross Talks

A South Korean delegation left for Gangwon Province on Thursday, where they will stay the night before heading to North Korea Friday morning for inter-Korean Red Cross talks.

The two Koreas will discuss humanitarian issues such as the reunion of separated families during the talks scheduled at a hotel in North Korea's Mount Geumgang resort.

The South Korean delegates will spend the night in Goseong, Gangwon Province and take an eastern land route to the North on Friday morning.

President of South Korea's Red Cross Park Kyung-seo, who is leading the delegation, told reporters that he will do his best to realize family reunions around the time of Independence Day on August 15th in accordance with the April inter-Korean summit declaration.

He said the two sides will discuss a project to resolve the agony of the 57-thousand family members separated by the Korean War.

Park added Seoul does not plan to raise the issue of South Koreans detained in the North during the Red Cross meeting.

Park is accompanied by other officials of the Red Cross and the Unification Ministry.

North Korea has yet to send a list of its delegates for the Friday meeting.
