38 North: No Dismantlement Activity Detected at Engine Stand in Sohae Station

A U.S. Web site monitoring North Korea says no activity of dismantlement has been detected at the rocket engine stand in the North’s Sohae Satellite Launching Station, the probable site North Korean leader Kim Jong-un promised to destroy soon.

According to 38 North on Thursday, commercial satellite imagery of the launching station from last Tuesday shows no apparent activity related to the dismantlement of its rocket engine test stand.

The report said that the engine test stand “has been used to test large liquid-fueled rocket engines applicable to both intercontinental ballistic missiles and large space launch vehicles.”

It went on to say that “while there are other vertical engine test stands in North Korea, the one at Sohae is the most well developed and its destruction would represent a significant symbolic and practical step forward for North Korea.”

Kim committed to dismantling one of his missile installations during his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore last week.
