N. Korean Media: Japan Should Compensate for Wartime Sins
North Korea’s state media has argued that Japan should compensate Koreans for its wartime atrocities.
In an editorial on Friday, the Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, attributed long-running tensions between Pyongyang and Tokyo to Japan’s hostile policies toward the North as well as its refusal to “liquidate its past sins.”
It added that in order for Japan to adapt to a fast-changing world, it should acknowledge responsibility for its wartime acts and compensate unconditionally.
The commentary comes after Japan revealed its intention to seek a summit meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
