Pompeo: US, N. Korea Understand 'Red Lines'

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the U.S. and North Korea have drawn and understand the “red lines” outlining the limits of a denuclearization deal.

Pompeo made the remarks during an interview aired on Saturday on MSNBC.

He said that understanding of how far each side is willing to go gave the U.S. administration confidence about Pyongyang giving up its nuclear arsenal following President Trump’s summit with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

The secretary said that both parties understand the redlines, things that neither country is prepared to go passed; that gives the U.S. an opportunity to believe that perhaps this time is different.

Regarding the North Korean leader, Pompeo said that Kim has a sense of humor, describing him as smart and well-informed.
