'Xi Asked Kim to Withhold Declaring End to Korean War'

Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly asked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to hold off declaring a formal end to the Korean War during the Washington-Pyongayng summit in Singapore.
Quoting a source familiar with North Korea-China affairs, Japan's Tokyo Shimbun daily reported on Monday that last month during his summit with Kim in China, Xi expressed his opposition to the leaders of the U.S. and North Korea declaring an end to the war.
Xi reportedly told Kim that declaring a formal end to the war should involve China which fought alongside North Korea in the war.
The report said that China repeatedly conveyed the position to Pyongyang until the Trump-Kim summit was held.
Late last month, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said her country will continue to play its due role in the Korean Peninsula peace process since it's a signatory on the 1953 Korean War Armistice.
The Korean War armistice agreement was signed by North Korea, the U.S. and China in 1953.
