Wooden Caskets for Repatriation Yet to be Sent to N. Korea

North Korea and the U.S. are said to be discussing ways to deliver wooden caskets to the North which will be used to repatriate the remains of U.S. service members who died during the Korean War.
Last Saturday, the U.S. sent roughly 100 temporary wooden caskets to the inter-Korean border to receive and transport remains in a dignified manner. However, a government source said Monday that the caskets have yet to be sent to the North.
The source said North Korean and U.S. officials could hold working-level talks at the truce village to work out how to transfer the caskets and how the North plans to deliver the remains.
Separately, U.S. Forces Korea moved 158 metal coffins from Yongsan in central Seoul to Osan.
Once the remains are handed over, they will be moved to Osan for a memorial service before being sent to Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii for identification.
