Two Koreas Agree to Swiftly Restore Maritime Military Channels

South and North Korea have agreed to swiftly restore two major military communication lines.
The Defense Ministry in Seoul said on Monday the decision to restore the military communication channels in the East Sea and West Sea was reached during colonel-level working talks earlier in the day.
The ministry said officials from the two sides held a meeting at the inter-Korean transit office in the South and reached consensus on the urgent need to restore the lines of communication in order to implement the inter-Korean summit agreement.
Their plan is to first restore the West Sea channel, as the East Sea channel was completely destroyed in a wildfire and needs more work to reconnect. The two sides also agreed to hold additional discussions later on about work duration and necessary equipment to fix the East Sea channel.
The working-level contact was a follow-up to a general-level military meeting held earlier this month.
