Foreign Ministry: No Change in US Policy on N. Korea's Denuclearization

Seoul’s Foreign Ministry says it sees no change in Washington’s commitment to a complete denuclearization of North Korea.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Noh Kyu-duk relayed the stance in a regular media briefing on Thursday while addressing a question on whether the newly used term, final, fully verified denuclearization(FFVD), indicates the U.S. is changing its policy on the North’s nuclear program.

Asked then whether both South Korea and the U.S. maintain their stance on complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization, Noh emphasized that there is no change in their joint goal of achieving the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as stipulated by the Panmunjeom Declaration and the North Korea-U.S. summit.

The U.S. State Department first used the term FFVD on Monday when it disclosed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s plan to visit the North this week.
