U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has reportedly left Washington on a flight bound for Pyongyang for nuclear talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. 

AFP reported that Pompeo departed on Thursday at 2 a.m. local time and will arrive in Pyongyang on Friday to begin his two-day trip to the North’s capital.    

It marks his third visit to the North after he traveled to the country during the Easter weekend and then in May to help arrange the historic Washington-Pyongyang summit. 

The U.S. State Department said on Monday that Pompeo will continue consultations and implement the forward progress made by Trump and Kim on the North's denuclearization in Singapore, adding he will meet with Kim and other North Korean officials.
