Repairs of Family Reunion Venue in N. Korea to Start Monday

Repairs of family reunion facilities in North Korea will begin Monday.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said a 22-member delegation headed by a ministry director and including Red Cross and Hyundai Asan officials will visit North Korea on Monday.

The repairs will be based on the findings of a South Korean inspection team that visited North Korea's Mount Geumgang last month.

The mountain resort is the venue for the inter-Korean family reunions scheduled from August 20th to the 26th.

The renovation work will continue through August 15th.

The Unification Ministry said that in order to carry out the repairs, technicians and engineers will need to stay in North Korea or make visits back and forth across the border.

The Seoul government has pledged its best efforts for the renovation as well as other preparations for the reunion event.

During the reunions, families will meet relatives from across the border that they have been separated from since the Korean War.
