N. Korea's Senior Officials Visit Kumsusan Palace to Remember Kim Il-sung

Senior North Korean officials visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the mausoleum for the national founder Kim Il-sung, in commemoration of the 24th anniversary of his death.

The North's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Sunday that senior officials of the party, government and army paid tribute to the statues of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il at the stroke of midnight on Saturday.

Kim Yong-nam, the president of the Supreme People's Assembly and Choe Ryong-hae, vice chairman of the North's State Affairs Commission were among the officials who paid the visit.

According to a photo carried by the party's Rodong Sinmun, Kim Yong-chol, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, who hosted meetings with United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang on Friday and Saturday, also paid a visit.

North Korean media, however, did not mention whether North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the mausoleum.

On the sixth anniversary of Kim Jong-il's death in December last year, the incumbent leader visited the palace and the KCNA reported a day after the visit.
