Top Office: US-N. Korea Talks Mark First Step to Denuclearization

South Korea has expressed hope that North Korea and the United States will resolve issues well as both parties are sincerely engaging in dialogue.
Presidential spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said on Sunday that the North Korea-U.S. talks held in Pyongyang marked the first step in a journey toward denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Kim said in a statement that as in an old Korean proverb, that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, the start is the most important event in the whole process.
The spokesman added that South Korea will closely consult with Washington and Pyongyang and spare no efforts and cooperation to realize complete denuclearization of the peninsula and settle peace in the region.
The statement came one day after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrapped up his two-day trip for talks on the North's denuclearization.
The top U.S. diplomat claimed "progress," but the North expressed regret over the United States’ attitude in the talks.
