US Republicans Urge Trump to Reconsider Decision to Stop Military Drills

U.S. Republican lawmakers have urged President Donald Trump to reconsider his decision to halt military exercises with South Korea until further progress is made with the North’s denuclearization.
Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, Senator Roy Blunt said that President Trump should reconsider his pledge to stop military drills with South Korea, saying that it was a mistake to give up the joint exercises.
Blunt said that Trump should maintain sanctions against North Korea until the final stage of the North's denuclearization, which he said would ultimately lead the North to the right path.
Meanwhile, Iowa Republican Senator Joni Ernst told CBS' Face the Nation on Sunday that Washington should continue with military exercises with Seoul, noting that those drills have the purpose of keeping the Korean Peninsula safe.
She said that such exercises ensure that the allies are prepared “should anything ever happen” and that she will raise the issue soon if the nuclear talks do not continue.
