Western Inter-Korean Military Hotline Restored
South Korea's Defense Ministry has announced that the inter-Korean military communication line in the Yellow Sea district was fully restored on Tuesday.
The restoration came in line with agreements reached during inter-Korean military and working-level talks held last month.
The ministry said it provided the North with transmission equipment and fax machines for restoring the hotline via consultations with the UN Security Council and the U.S. to avoid any breach of the current sanctions regime.
Pyongyang shut down the military hotline on the western coast of the Korean Peninsula in February 2016, in protest of Seoul's decision to shut down the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The ministry said it plans to promptly restore another military communication line on the eastern coast that was blocked after a forest fire on the northern side of the Military Demarcation Line in November 2010.
