S. Korean, British Top Diplomats Hold Strategic Talks

Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a meeting with her new British counterpart Jeremy Hunt in London Wednesday to discuss a range of diplomatic and economic issues, including North Korea and the U.K.’s departure from the EU.

In the fourth ministerial strategic dialogue between the two countries, Kang briefed Hunt on the latest developments on North Korea and the government’s efforts to achieve complete denuclearization and permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.

She also requested Britain to continuously lend support for Seoul’s policy toward the North as a member of the UN Security Council and the South’s ally.

In response, Hunt recognized South Korea’s devotion to improving inter-Korean relations and establishing a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. He also stressed that international sanctions on Pyongyang must be maintained strictly until North Korea fulfills its denuclearization promise

The two diplomats also agreed to closely work together to ensure the sustainable development of Seoul-London ties in various fields, including trade and export, even after the U.K. exits the EU.
