A UN Security Council(UNSC) committee has assessed that North Korea has continued to advance its nuclear and ballistic missile technology.

The UNSC sanctions committee on North Korea released a report to that effect on Wednesday.

The report by an experts' panel said that North Korea has unveiled new short- and mid-range ballistic missiles, and submarine-launched ballistic missile(SLBM) and intercontinental ballistic missile(ICBM) systems. 

It said that North Korea is very likely to have developed the ability to mount nuclear warheads onto its ballistic missiles with covering a diverse distance.

The assessment is consistent with the North's claim that it has made its nuclear weapons smaller and lighter. 

The UN panel also said that North Korea produced nuclear fission materials, maintained its nuclear facilities and upgraded infrastructure for ballistic missiles.
