Korean sci-fi blockbuster “D-War” was the highest grossing film of the year, attracting over 8.4 million filmgoers over the summer. Laden with spectacular special effects and computer graphics, “D-War” ranked fourth on the opening weekend in the U.S. as well.
Despite its stellar performance at the box office on both sides of the Pacific, however, “D-War” did not make any of the major categories in the three biggest award ceremonies in Korea. The 28th Blue Dragon Film Awards nominated “D-War” for just one category – film technology – out of 15. The 6th Korea Film Awards also limited its nomination to two categories – visual effect and audio.
On the other hand, “Remember U518,” the second highest grossing film of this year, was honored with eight nominations in the Blue Dragon Film Awards and enigmatic “M” with idol star Kang Dong-won won seven nominations in the Korea Film Awards.
