The founder of SM Entertainment, Lee Soo-man, attended a movie screening, having been invited by the former First Lady of the United States herself.
The screening was for the movie "The Lady", hosted by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) in Washington, DC on April 9th. Lee was invited by the current US Secretary of State and former first lady Hillary Clinton.
"The Lady", hosted by Luc Besson, follows the story of Aung San Suu Kyi, democracy leader in Myanmar. The political icon was played by Michelle Yeoh.
Yeoh was of course present at the screening, along with the United States Ambassador-at-large for Global Women's Issues Melanne Verveer, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell, and professional figure skater Michelle Kwan.
Lee's invite stems from his ties with Michelle Yeoh. When secretary Hillary Clinton paid a visit to Korea last November, she had asked Yeoh for a DVD copy of "The Lady" before leaving for Myanmar from Korea. Yeoh asked Lee to make arrangements so that the political leader could receive her DVD copy while in Korea. Lee had the DVD delivered to Clinton 10 minutes before her flight to Myanmar.
