Holiday Party Makeup Tips
Hello, everyone! Welcome to Style Korea, a Tuesday segment that brings you updates on the latest fashions and style trends. I’m Yooree Kim.

It’s the holiday season and that means a calendar full of parties, events, and get-togethers. Today I’m going to introduce the top three holiday makeup tips and tricks so you can look your best at any holiday event.

Plump up the skin
The first step to any great makeup look is to create a flawless canvas for your skin. Remember, beautiful makeup always begins with the skin. For the most perfect canvas, make sure your skin is properly cleansed and hydrated to allow for the smoothest application of products. For intense hydration, opt for richer lotions and creams packed with skin-enhancing nutrients. Another good tip is to mix a good quality facial oil with your moisturizer, as facial oils can instantly moisturize, boost radiance, and plump up the skin, keeping makeup from soaking into fine lines and wrinkles. After applying the cream, don’t forget to layer on a primer to prep the skin for foundation. You can skip the powder for a more dewy finish and then top off the look with a touch of coral-peach blush on the apples of the cheeks and create a soft glow.

Add shimmer
We can’t talk holiday makeup without mentioning shimmer. The easiest and the fastest way to create a festive makeup look is to add shimmer and glow to your eyes, cheeks, or lips. Opt for shimmery eyeshadows and make highlighters your best friend. For holiday parties, amp up your eye makeup by choosing shimmery eyeshadow in golds, silvers, browns, or purples. Among other eye makeup trends, mauve smokey eye look is super hot at the moment. Apply a shimmery mauve eyeshadow on the lid—just above the iris and on the inner corners of the eyes and instantly brighten up the dark areas of the lid. Pair the soft mauve lids with black eyeliner, a few strokes of mascara, and pretty pink cheeks and you will be sure to make heads turn at your party. Don’t forget to add a shimmery highlighter on the cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin and make your skin look dewy and luminous.

Choose to play up either the eyes or the lips
When choosing holiday makeup, decide if you're going to play up your eyes or your lips, not both. Super dark smokey eyes paired with bold red lips is definitely a makeup don’t. When it comes to holiday makeup tips, bold lips are always glamorous, feminine, and timeless. For a lovely holiday look, Play with lots of flashy hues such as neon reds, hot pinks, corals, purple plums and more and instantly take your look from drab to fab. If you are doing a bright lip, do stay light on the rest of your makeup or you will risk looking like a clown. If you are emphasizing the eyes with smokey metallic shadows, eyeliner, mascara and fake lashes, go subtle on the lips with a semi-matte nude lipstick in soft beiges or pinks to balance out the look. To help keep lipstick in place, don’t forget to line lips using a lip liner in the similar shade as the lipstick, apply powder on the lips, and then fill in with the lipstick.

Play with these makeup tips and add some shimmer to the holidays!
