New Year’s Fashion Resolutions
Happy New Year, everyone! Welcome to Style Korea, a Tuesday segment that brings you updates on the latest fashions and style trends. This is Yooree Kim.

The New Year is a change for us to start afresh, which makes it a great time for wardrobe overhauls. To help you stay stylish all year long, today I’m going to introduce the top four fashion resolutions you can make and keep for a better you.

Do a full closet clean-out
As we are kick starting the New Year, a good place to get started is to sweep out your wardrobe and begin organizing. Anything you haven’t worn in the past two years should go. Once your wardrobe is organized, you will be able to locate items easily, find more outfit options, and make better decisions with future purchases. Spend a Saturday afternoon going through your current wardrobe and get a feel for what needs to be added and what should be discarded. Sorting clothes by color or by function—for instance, work, weekend, formal, casual, gym, pajamas, etc. will allow you to quickly find clothes that you do wear often and help you visually see combinations you are likely to miss otherwise.

Buy less and shop more smartly
This year, make a vow to shop less and spend wisely on investment pieces made with good quality fabric and stitching. Always think quality over quantity, and resist the urge to stock up on throwaway fashion items that go out of style in no time. Look more at the fit and the fabric of the things you buy and buy the best you can afford when it comes to timeless classics that will be worn time and again such as a wool coat, a tailored blazer, an LBD (little black dress), tailored trousers, a perfectly fitting pair of jeans, white button-down shirts, a pencil skirt, and more.

Branch out and try bold trends
Step out of your comfort zone and incorporate bold trends into your rather safe wardrobe. Bold florals, geometric prints, neon colors, embellished sneakers, exaggerated cat-eye sunglasses, oversized faux fur items are just a few of the hot trends on the horizon for 2016. Infuse them into your look one at a time and dare to wear new styles this year!

Take better care of clothes you love most
Taking better care of your clothes is a sure way to avoid having to spend unnecessary money on replacing anything that shrunk, faded, or simply fell apart in the washer. Always make an effort to hand wash or dry clean items made of delicate fabric so they can stand the test of time. Don’t forget to make trips to the tailor before your favorite items are too far gone. Lastly, store clothes properly and make them last longer and look better. To avoid loss of shape, knitwear should be folded flat (not hung) and stored on shelves. When hanging items, use caution and leave enough room between hangers to allow for air to circulate. This will keep down the risk of mold and mildew and keep clothes from wrinkling during storage. Out of season items should be placed in separate containers and kept in a dry, cool place.

Play with these tips and have a stylish 2016!
