New Year’s Beauty Resolutions
It is that time of the year again when we go full throttle with our New Year’s resolutions. To help you stay chic and stylish year round, today I’m going to introduce the top five beauty resolutions you can actually keep in the year 2016.

Focus on skincare
Looking fabulous starts with the right skincare. Find out what your ultimate skincare routine is and stick to it. Always cleanse properly, exfoliate regularly, and hydrate thoroughly using the right products. Remember, rule number one when it comes to skincare is to replenish the moisture we lose between all the makeup we put on during the day and the harsh UV rays our skin is exposed to every day. Always remember to slather on a quality moisturizer before foundation and after cleansing the face at night!

Remove makeup everyday without fail
Going to bed without removing makeup is a huge no-no. Making sure to cleanse the skin every night is the best weapon against unwanted skin problems. Toss out harsh cleansers and opt for mild, skin-soothing cleansing oils. Beauty experts recommend double cleansing by using a mild cleanser followed by a gentle foaming cleanser packed with skin-enhancing vitamins and antioxidants.

Spring clean your makeup bag
If you haven’t cleaned out your makeup drawer in the past year, resolve to do so in 2016. Go through your makeup collection at least twice a year and throw out any old products. Remember, expired products can cause irritation, breakouts, and other skin infections. According to dermatologists, skincare products such as toners, lotions, and creams usually have a shelf life of one year, foundations and BB creams up to 18 months, and lipsticks, pencil eyeliners, and powders up to two years. Liquid and gel eyeliners have a shorter lifespan of up to eight months, whereas mascaras should be dumped every three months. In addition, failing to clean your makeup brushes, sponges, and other applicators can cause breakouts and blemishes. Don’t forget to wash makeup applicators at least twice a week using antibacterial soap.

Find the perfect foundation and BB cream
Many of us have issues finding the right shade when it comes to choosing foundations and BB creams. With a plethora of products available in the market, the choice can be a difficult one. To get the most seamless match possible, test the color of the foundation, BB cream, or tinted moisturizer against your neck, not your face. The reason this works is that the skin on your face is thinner in certain areas than on your neck, causing the color to differ which makes it difficult to find one shade that matches the whole face. If you have dry skin, choose liquid or stick foundations with a creamy texture and for those with oily skin, opt for an oil-free or powder foundation that control the excess sebum production, leaving a matte and smooth finish.

Experiment with new makeup looks
Last but not least, get out of your makeup comfort zone and experiment with new looks. Natural eye makeup, bronze lids, bold lips, thick eyebrows and fake lashes are still trending in 2016. Remember, something as simple as a red lipstick can instantly transform your entire look. This year, don’t be stuck in beauty rut—and do experiment with options you typically shy away from.

Play with these tips and have a stylish 2016!
