Winter Skincare Tips
Temperatures are plummeting and it’s time to give your skin a much-needed seasonal overhaul. Today I’m going to introduce the top five tips on how to keep your skin supple and young this winter.

Switch skincare products
First up, to get dewy skin in the dead of winter, start by switching out your skincare products. It goes without saying that it’s important to tailor your skincare to the change in weather—as cold, dry, windy weather can wreak havoc on your skin, leaving it excessively dry and flaky. Switch out water-based, lightweight products for richer creams and butters with creamier textures. Water-based products should definitely be avoided as they can freeze on skin. Oil-based creams, on the other hand, contain higher concentrations of emollient ingredients and thus should be added to your skincare regimen during the cold months. Try products containing shea butter or non-clogging oils such as avocado oil or almond oil.

Moisturize throughout the day
To help winter-proof your skin, don’t forget to moisturize throughout the day. One easy way to keep your skin well-hydrated during the day is to use a good quality facial mist. Always carry a facial mist spray that can keep your skin hydrated while also keeping your makeup looking glowy. To obtain the “dewy look” rather than a powdery complexion, you can simply spray the facial mist on your face as the last step of your makeup routine. Choose small-sized sprays portable enough to just throw in your makeup bag and spray on your face whenever your skin feels dull and dehydrated.

Switch to oil cleansers
Another skincare change to make this season is to add an oil cleanser to your evening skincare routine. Cleansing oils work extremely well because oil dissolves oil—thus oil cleansers are supposed to be the very best thing for removing traces of makeup, sunscreen, and sebum without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Dermatologists recommend using one without mineral oil so that it doesn’t break you out or clog your pores.

Always make SPF a priority
Another huge winter skincare consideration should be sun protection. Though it’s been said a million times, the number one skincare advice is to wear sunscreen—yes, even during the winter. Winter sun—combined with snow glare—can be as damaging to the skin as the summer heat and light and it’s possible to get a sunburn in the winter, which can make winter itch worse. Whether you use a stand-alone sunscreen product or foundations/BB creams with SPF in them, always make SPF a priority.

Try at-home facials regularly
To add a real boost to the skin, try at-home facials and treat yourself to a day of pampering. Opt for facial masks with intensely hydrating formula containing powerful humectants such as glycerin, aloe vera or hyaluronic acid, all of which help lock in moisture. Use a mask at least once a week and instantly give your skin a fresh, youthful radiance.

Change your skincare regimen now and look extra-gorgeous all winter long!
