Director Kang Je-kyu's 은행나무 침대 or “Gingko Bed” revolves around a painter, Su-hyun, played by Han Suk-kyu, who is force-fed visions and mysteriously drawn to an old bed carved from Gingko, only to find that the two faces sculpted into the headboard are Mi-dan, played by Jin Hee-kyung, and Jong-mun - himself and his lover in a former life.
Mi-dan's ghost and its wandering nemesis, General Hwang, played by Shin Hyun-joon, who has suffered unrequited love for 1,000 years begin a game of cat-and-mouse as he chases her and Su-hyun before granting them one last chance to meet during an eclipse.
Meanwhile, as the two ghosts jump in and out of bodies to gain materiality, Su-hyun's doctor girlfriend Sun-young, played by Shim Hye-jin, becomes the innocent victim and one patient loses his eyes.
The retroactive exposition, provided in part by a mysterious gayageum-maker, keeps the audience guessing throughout the film.
