Choi playes a big time loser who wants to become a big-shot
in 범죄와의 전쟁 or Nameless Gangster.

The movie is set In 1982, Busan.

Choi Min-sik's character has a relatively decent life.
He works as a customs officer at the Busan Port.
One of the most sought after jobs in Korea back then,
was to be a civil servant like this one.

He makes some cash on the side by receiving bribes from smugglers.
So life is good.
Unfortunately, his crew is caught red-handed,
and he is fired as the fall-guy.

Desperate, but not defeated,
during his final days in his job
he chances upon a massive amount of heroin!

He is determined to take it as his pension from the heavens.

Thanks to a friend who knows a big-shot mobster in Korea, played by Ha Jeong-woo, he finds a market for the product to strike it rich.

Choi's character uses this opportunity to put a foot in the door
and join the elite ranks of gangsters.
He realizes he has a lot to learn,
but they realize they have a lot to gain through him as well.

A high-stake game of deception and betrayal ensues
between Choi's character, the big time mobster, rival gangs
and law enforcements.

The magic of the movie is watching Choi's seemingly
hopeless and helpless character continually
bounce back from a big fall
and show us what the right amount of guts
and calculated cowardice can do to improve your life.
