Puppeteer Moon Su-ho, bridging Korean and Czech cultures

2016-04-05

In the avant garde and youthful neighborhood of Hongdae, Darak Theater presents puppet shows combining Korean traditional pansori and Czech puppetry. This unique production was designed and organized by Korea's top puppeteer Moon Su-ho. He traveled to the Czech Republic 12 years ago, when he was 28. He entered the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the home of Czech puppetry and majored in alternative theater and puppetry. That’s where his love and dedication to the art of puppetry was nurtured. Recently, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Korea’s Creative Center for Convergence Culture and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Korea for the development of international puppet shows and the person who played a pivotal part in this deal was none other than Moon Su-ho. He is excited to how his love for puppetry has led to such meaningful cultural exchanges between Korea and the Czech Republic. He is also pioneering a new genre in puppetry by combining Korea's pansori and Czech-style puppet shows. He is a true cultural go-between bridging two different heritages.
