Kim Yun-tae, the director of the Multiculture Museum

2016-07-05

This is the era of globalization and multiculturalism. It would be nice to experience all different cultures by traveling around the globe, but the reality for most of us is not so accommodating. Kim Yun-tae, the director of the Multiculture Museum, has opened this cultural venue in the hope of providing multicultural experiences without traveling outside of Korea. He displayed small-scale replicas of famed landmarks and iconic items from countries around the world.

Kim started out his career by running a music education center for children. What set his center apart from others was that his was taught in English. But with time this kind of education format ended up focusing on teaching children English, not music or culture.

That certainly wasn't what he had intended to do. He wanted to focus more on hands-on cultural learning, so he began traveling around the world to collect the items he needed for the interactive multicultural program. In marking the museum's 10th anniversary next year, Director Kim Yun-tae is more eager to introduce relatively little-known countries to Koreans, because he wants to show that culture of each and every country, regardless of its size or economic power, deserves our attention and understanding.
