Hundreds of People Sue Credit Card Firms for Data Leak

Hundreds of people have filed a lawsuit against credit card companies following a massive leak of personal information.

On Monday, 500 people filed claims worth a total of 580 million won against KB Kookmin Card, NH Nonghyup Card and Lotte Card with the Seoul Central District Court.

In the petition, the people claimed they fear secondary damage over the leak of their names, phone numbers and credit card information. They argued the credit card companies must provide compensation for mental anguish victims will likely suffer from voice phishing scams and spam messages.

Last Monday, 130 people initially filed a similar lawsuit. Civic organizations are calling for the introduction of the class action system which will allow all victims to receive compensation if one victim wins the suit.
