Samsung Electronics’ overall sales fell by some six trillion won year-on-year in 2015.
The electronics giant announced Thursday in a regulatory filing that its overall sales recorded 200-point-65 trillion won last year. Its yearly operating profit, however, grew to 26-point-four trillion won, up about one trillion won from 2014.
In the fourth quarter of last year alone, the company’s sales increased three percent compared to the previous quarter to 53-point-three trillion won. Operating profit, meanwhile, dropped 17 percent to 640 billion won.
By sector, operating profit grew year-on-year in the home appliance, semiconductor and display arms, while the IT and mobile businesses posted a drop.
The company predicted a boom in demand for consumer and home appliances this year thanks to favorable factors such as the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. However, Samsung expected some difficulties due to weakening global demand for smartphones.
