Pres. Moon Calls for Evaluation of Personnel Mistreatment at Gov't Agencies

President Moon Jae-in has called for a reevaluation of the manner by which low-ranking officials and staff are treated at government agencies.

He made the call at a meeting with presidential secretaries at the presidential office on Monday, addressing the alleged abuse by a Army four-star general and his wife of enlisted soldiers assigned to their residence to help with their official duties.

Calling the case shocking and disappointing for the public, the president said that he feels “very regrettable” about the incident as the commander in chief.

Moon noted the country should take it as an opportunity to root out the hierarchical abuse in the military, instead of resorting to stopgap measures, such as punishing some of those responsible.

He also urged his officials to thoroughly investigate the case and improve the related laws and institutions.
