Popular actress Choi Jin-sil has been found dead in her home in what appears to be a suicide.

Police said Thursday that her mother found the 40-year-old actress with an elastic bandage around her neck, which was tied to a shower stall in her home in southern Seoul at around 6:15 a.m.

She was taken to a funeral home at Samsun Medical Center in Seoul after forensic workers inspected the site.

Police said that no suicide note has been found, but that she seemed to have committed suicide.

Police is investigating malicious rumors about her alleged involvement in the recent suicide of an actor, Ahn Jae-hwan, as her family members and friends say she was agonizing over the rumors.
