A Foreign Ministry official says Sunday's bombing in Yemen that killed four South Korean tourists was a premeditated suicide attack by a terrorist group, citing the results of a preliminary investigation by Yemeni authorities.

The ministry reportedly confirmed through the South Korean Embassy in Yemen that the preliminary investigation by the Yemeni Interior Ministry found that it was a deliberate terrorist attack.

The official, however, added that the Seoul government has yet to confirm whether the judgment is the Yemeni government’s final conclusion.

He said Al Qaeda probably orchestrated the attack in protest of the Yemeni government's recent crackdown on its activities. But the official was quick to add that it's not known whether the bombing was specifically targeting South Koreans.
