Russia Plays Down NK Launch

The Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy Grigory Logvinov has warned against overdramatizing North Korea’s forthcoming launch of a space satellite.

Logvinov, the leading Russian envoy on the Korean Peninsula’s related problems, told an interview with Itar-Tass News Agency on Tuesday that although the situation is complex, the global community should not make any rash judgments on the issue.

He added that the world community should carefully weigh all circumstances surrounding the satellite launch due in early April and refrain from fanning panic.

Meanwhile, North Korean ambassador to Russia Kim Yong-je on Tuesday blamed the U.S. and Japan for making groundless assumptions that the North is preparing for a launch of a long-distance ballistic missile, not a satellite. Kim added that the North would do its best to secure peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
