NK Demands Light-Water Reactors

North Korea has reportedly demanded the provision of two light-water reactors in exchange for accepting a comprehensive verification process for its nuclear program.

A diplomatic source in Seoul said Thursday that North Korea made the demand when China’s top envoy to the six-party nuclear talks, Wu Dawei, visited Pyongyang last month to discuss the resumption of the six-way nuclear talks.

The Chinese government has notified other parties to the nuclear talks of the North’s demand.

The last round of talks held in December failed to narrow differences on verification protocol.
