U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the U.S. is trying to block North Korea from following through with a planned rocket launch.
When asked Thursday if the U.S. would attempt to shoot down a North Korean rocket, should one be launched, Clinton said Washington is doing its best to dissuade the North from pursuing such a provocative action.
Clinton said that if the North does launch a rocket, the U.S. will take up the issue with the U.N. Security Council.
In Washington, the State Department reiterated Clinton’s Wednesday comments in which she said that a launch of any type of vehicle would be in violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions and would not go unnoticed and would result in consequences.
North Korea has publicly announced that it plans to launch an experimental communications satellite between April fourth and eighth. The U.S., South Korea and Japan believe it might be a cover for a long-range missile test.
