Former Pres. Urges China to Mediate in NK Nuke Issue

Former President Kim Dae-jung says China’s mediation between North Korea and other parties of the six-way nuclear talks will help resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.

Speaking at China’s Peking University on Wednesday, the former president said Koreans have high expectations for China’s role in the six-party nuclear talks.

The former president went on to say that both North Korea and the United States realize the need for dialogue. He said that if the nuclear issue is resolved, both sides will benefit, but if not, they will be burdened greatly.

Kim urged Beijing to persuade Pyongyang and Washington to resolve the nuclear issue according to the six-party framework, and have a leading role in realizing peace on the Korean Peninsula.
